Our 2011 Event Calendar incorporates events & happenings in Nambour & across
the Sunshine Coast, including sporting & community events, festivals, exhibitions, expos, music, theatre, the arts & more. While all care is taken to ensure event
information is as accurate as possible, no guarantees can be given. If in doubt, we advise you to make your own enquiries by contacting the event organisers direct.
Tue 2 Aug from 5.30pm Nambour Networking Evening Nambour Civic Centre The community as a whole, Retailers, Members, Non Members and Sporting and Community
groups are encouraged to come along and take an active part in this event.
It’s on again, you’re invited to join with Nambour Alliance and Nambour Retailers Group on Tuesday 2 August at 5.30pm for our second exciting interactive presentation at the Nambour Civic Centre.
After the resounding success of the first Networking Evening the Alliance Board have decided to host these events quarterly.
The agenda on August 2 will change to allow far greater audience interaction and feature three exciting initiatives:
The release of survey results.
A Strategic Action Plan and Town Vision, which draws its content from survey results and maps the future direction for our energies.
A presentation by Cr Lew Brennan, Chairman of Council’s Economic Development portfolio, outlining his ideas and thoughts for Nambour and the connection to a Nambour Town Vision.
Our whole future as a viable town hinges on all of us heading in one direction, with a common goal and a team mentality. Otherwise we face an uncertain economic and social
future.

Thu 4 Aug @ 8pm Sunshine Coast Blues Club Royal George Hotel Currie St Nambour 1st Thursday of the month Since the first meeting at the Royal George Hotel in Feb 06 , the Sunshine Coast Blues Club has provided members & visitors with a simple & successful
recipe. The regular audience is always there by 8pm to see the Blues Club “House Band” start the night with a set of blues favourites. Al Hensley (piano) & Bob Lee (double bass) enjoy the opportunity to present some
lesser known & seldom performed blues to a receptive audience. Al’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the blues, plus his willingness to share his knowledge, makes each performance an education for club members. The house band is
rounded out with Aaron Giffin on guitar, Joanne Lee on drums & Fabio Brecciaroli joining in on blues harp. The Nambour Blues Club has quietly established itself as a welcome event on the first Thursday of each month. The
combination of dependable quality music from the house band & the regular performers, plus the unexpected & surprising contributions from guest jammers, makes for a great night of Blues in Nambour.

Fri 5 Aug ONE NIGHT ONLY ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY As Part of the Nambour Festival 2011 Tom Petrie’s Dilemma — A Pioneer’s Tale Nambour
Civic Centre - Theatre 7.45pm for 8pm Featuring Liz Buchanan, Wayne Hinton & The New Settlers Band Music: Dale Jones Script: Don Batchelor Proudly presented by DJ Productions in association with
Nambour Festivals
Come early and hear a pre-show talk by historian, Leith Barter: Our History — 70 years in 10 minutes (7.45pm - 7.55pm in the Theatre)
This story, older than Queensland itself, is a
revelation.
In ringing music and radiant yarns, it springs from the childhood memories of Tom Petrie, told in his twilight days, to his loving daughter Constance. It unfolds a unique personal record of the
whitefella-blackfella encounter right here where you live. And, in the telling, much of Tom's story becomes our story too. As you hear them celebrated - Maroochy and Mooloolah, Petrie and Pine River and a host of
those familiar places will be re-born in you. A local & historical experience this engaging, up-lifting and memorable performance should not be missed.
TICKETS: $35.50 Adults $29.50 Concessions $30.00 Groups 10+

Sat 6 Aug Nambour State High School celebrates its 75th Anniversary OPEN DAY from 9.30am Queensland’s oldest rural School Celebrates 75 years as a High School.
Nambour High School grew from Queensland’s first rural school and is now celebrating its 75th anniversary with an open day at the school on 6 August 2011.
Established in 1917, Nambour’s Rural School was the first in Queensland and later added a high school ‘top’€? in 1936. The school was then split into a primary school and the high school
in 1953.
Throughout its history Nambour High School has maintained an agriculture curriculum and continues to maintain a school farm. It also has a great academic record.
The school has educated numerous prominent figures. Former Australian Prime Minister was a dux of the school in 1974, while Treasurer Wayne Swan graduated in 1971.
The current State member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson, and former State member for Noosa, Ray Barber also attended the school. A few other notables from Nambour high include Olympic champion, Clint
Robinson, actresses Carole and Rainee Skinner and Mark Brinkley, Australian Ballet.
Former student and member of the steering committee for the anniversary, Ron Glanville remembers Nambour High in the late 1960’s and early 70’s as having a great atmosphere, as well as having great
teachers. “I think that the Sunshine Coast was always a popular location, so they could probably pick & choose from the available teaching talent€”?.
Ron urges any past students or teachers to come along to the celebration at the school on 6 August anytime from 9.30 am.
On the day there will be:
Historical displays
A roll call for years 1936 to 1939
Classroom displays
Souvenirs
Entertainment
Food stalls
Opportunities for class reunions & socialising
An evening function
A detailed program is posted on the NHS website
Genealogy Sunshine Coast in Nambour is producing a CD to mark 75 years since the school was established. The CD will be for sale at the school on 6 August and will contain
photographs, yearbooks and magazines, which will form a great digital archive for the history of the School. This archive is of particular significance to Sunshine Coast residents because, until the 1960s, the only high school on the
coast was in Nambour. Genealogy Sunshine Coast are keen to see any memorabilia or photos that you may have.

Sat 13 Aug Australian Chamber Orchestra AcO2 Nambour Civic Centre Main Hall 8pm BACH
& SCHUBERT performed by AcO2, the Australian Chamber Orchestra's precocious little sister. AcO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the AcO, creating a combined ensemble
with a fresh, energetic performance style. The young musicians have all participated in the ACO's Emerging Artist program and many already play in the state symphony orchestras but choose to spend time experiencing the AcO's
high-octane performance style. The best go on to tour nationally and internationally with the AcO and it is testament to the program's success that former AcO2 violinists Madeleine Boud and Rebecca Chan have been appointed core
members of the AcO.
AcO2 commenced touring in 2007 and by 2012 will have visited over 50 regional centres around the country. Guest stars have included Tim Freedman from The Whitlams, oud player Joseph Tawadros and Finnish violinist
Pekka Kuusisto. AcO2 performed in the Classical Destinations II television series screened worldwide and now released on CD and DVD by Sony.
ACO2 runs workshops for school-aged students in regional and metropolitan areas. Thus the ACOâ€s Education Program identifies, connects and mentors three generations of Australian string players, making the
future very bright indeed.
"It was such an exciting concert in every way, of a truly superb standard and such an interesting and demanding program. Bravo to the ACO for this exceptional program for
emerging string players." Suzanne Gleeson, Patron
